DAY 7 : FRANCE : NASBINALS to ST-CHELY-D'AUBRAC - 17kms - 5 hours

Distance walked so far : 132 kms

Weather : sunny and warm : 26o

Sumptuous breakfast at Lo d'ici in Nasbinals

Unexpected fairy lights and cubed tables

We left Lo d’ici, our very up-market gite about 9 am, after a sumptuous breakfast (fruit, pastries, local tarts etc). Not only were we delighted to stay in such a lovely place, and have fresh sheets and towels, there were a few other surprises as well!

An absolutely perfect day for walking! All the planets aligned today with gorgeous weather, breath-taking scenery, shady walkways, and enchanting villages.

Cows, burons, blue skies - perfect day's walking

Shady paths for the descent

Friends along the way

We were especially delighted to find the little village of Domerie d’Albrac, with its large tenth century church and tiny town square, which included Chez Germaine, a fabulous café, which was the hub. In winter we suspect this is a thriving town with a lot of accommodation for the ski season.

Our destination today was the small town of St-Chely-d’Aubrac, which has buildings dating back to the fifteenth century. We have now descended from the Aubrac plateau and are heading towards the plains. This area is known as Le Haut-Roguergue.

Lunch with local speciality 'Pounti'

Tonight’s gite is a private house with 2 double rooms, bathroom and living area – B&B 50 euro a double. We have the house to ourselves – it has a pretty view to the river and the forests nearby. We can see up the valley where we made our 510m descent today.
