SEPTEMBER 2016 : IRELAND : Galway

I

In Galway

Rain forecast

Galway's centre is alive with tourists and colour

Delicious lunch and coffee at Mc Cambridges

Lots of buskers

We visited St Nicholas' church - Anglican and close to the city centre

13th century core

Banners from the Battle Standards of the Connaught Rangers. This was an army division formed in 1793 and used in the Napoleonic Campaign (1808-1814)

This Anglican Church is also used by the Romanian and Russian orthodox communities here.
Through the icon screen is the tomb of James Lynch, the first mayor of Galway.

Jane Eyre, a prominent citizen in Galway with her glowing epitaph. I suggest that she might have written the outstanding report of her achievements herself (before she died!)

The Lynch castle now a local bank building.

The fast flowing River Corrib with views to the Catholic Galway Cathedral.

Huge Galway seagulls

A cheesemonger? Definitely an excellent providore with an amazing variety of cheeses.

And wine too.

Catching up on all the news..

John busy in the kitchen..

Great to be back together.

Miriam (England), Claudia (Venezuela/ America) and Sergio (Spain), Mark, John and Maugie (Ireland) and me. A very happy group reunited after 4 years. We all did the Camino Frances together in October/November 2012.
