JULY 2015 : SPAIN : El Camino del Norte : Day 23 : Santa Marina - Luarca (30 kms - 8 hours)

Distance travelled : 539 kms
Distance to go : 270 kms

A fine day, about 25o, of fairly straight walking. There were a few ravines between towns and each had its own little bay. It was quite social as we met up with French and Australian friends, which passed the time very effectively. Wonderful destination, Luarca, a very pretty, busy port.

Leaving Santa Marina - a one- horse town, with not too much to redeem itself. A fine day with
   an encouraging sunrise.

          The Mexican family set off.

                Little bays and rocky headlands.

             A welcome cafe in Cadavedo.

            Many walkers out today.

Confusion with waymarkers. The French couples stop traffic.

Others send off a scouting party to check options.

We meet up with the Capenay family near Barcia and walk together.

Hot. Sharing a KitKat that was more like churros - hot chocolate dessert.

Our first glimpse of Luarca, an active fishing port and popular beach holiday destination.

Many steps down into the town centre.

         Enchanting town with historic homes.

            Colourful port.

           The Harbour Master's office.

The albergue was full by 3.30 when we arrived, so we quickly found a hostal. 45 euros.
Simply decorated, immaculately clean with crisp white sheets.

So many pelegrinos on the road. These desperate walkers looking for accommodation before
they decide whether to move on to the next town.

After a late lunch, a drink and discussion about the day and plans for tomorrow.

Hi Mark and Meg, just binge read your posts and it is a great contrast to a bleak and cold Ballarat winter. I have pulled a virtual hammy and got blisters just reading about this. Look forward to the next post and following you on the peace walk. Cheers Wendy
