MAY 2019 : NAMADGI NATIONAL PARK, ACT : MT TENNENT : 15 kms : 5 hours

Last year I walked up Mt Tennent with the bushwalking club and wanted to reclimb it with Mark as one of our training walks. It is one of the highest mountains in the area, with an altitude of 1375m. Here is the view of Mt Tennent with the autumn colours along the Tharwa River in the foreground.

We began the walk from the Namadgi Visitors Centre at 9.30, a chilly morning but with the sun shining. 16o max.

Fog over the summit. Crossing the main road to the track proper.

A mob of kangaroos on the lower slopes

Starting to climb

The first lookout - Cypress Pine Lookout

Up a sandy path

The path became more steep and uneven

Mark decided that it was too perilous for his knees and headed back to the car park

Interesting contours in the boulders

Gum tree shoots

Winding towards the top

More kangaroos

Another kilometre up the steep fire trail but a returning walker said it was cold, windy and low visibility at the summit, so I decided not to conquer it today.

Clear views of the Tharwa Valley

An attractive walk

A Missulena or Mouse Spider scurrying across track

There were several Striated Thornbills flying through the bushes. Too nimble to be caught on camera. A Google copy.

Muted colours everywhere

The end of the track
