MAY 2019 : MOTHER’S DAY ACTIVITIES

Mother’s Day is an exciting time when you are a mother and grandmother. My first appointment was High Tea at my granddaughter, Dakota’s school, Trinity, which I enjoyed with her mum, Ashley.

Dakota (7), Koby (5) and Archer (1) planned a special day of activities for my Mother’s Day treat. We visited the Royal Mint, where all Australia’s currency is designed and made.

Dakota found out that she was as tall as 510 $1 coins.

There was also an exhibition, featuring the career of Norman Hetherington. He has special significance for our family as he served in the Australian Army during WW2 with my father in Entertainment Units which entertained troops in New Guinea. He then went on to work on children’s programs on the ABC.

Mr Squiggle, a favourite program.

Ice cream at the Foreshore (pistachio for Nonna), after a visit to the Glassworks

FaceTime with our Freo family - Pippa (5), Harrie (3) and Mitchell (10 mths)

A memorable Australian Chamber Orchestra concert on Saturday night, conducted by Satu Vänskä, with works by South American composers - Villa-Lobos, Piazzolla, Golijov and Ginastera.

The guest soloist was American jazz saxophonist, Branford Marsalis.

On Sunday we arranged to have a family lunch just north of Berrima in the Southern Highlands. Driving past Collector, we saw an array of colour in a large field from the highway, so we veered off the road to investigate. What we discovered was the remnants of a scarecrow competition, from last week’s Collector Pumpkin Festival. We had fun wandering around the exhibit and selecting our favourites.

Midway point, an hour and a half from Sydney and Canberra is the Eling Forest Winery, set in an autumnal garden.

A relaxed lunch, with Nana, my mum, so happy to be surrounded by so many members of the family.
