For the Canberra centenary in 2013, a 148 km Canberra Centenary Trail was developed. We decided to do the 20km second section from Mulligan’s Flat, near the suburb of Forde, over Oak Hill and around One Tree Hill to Hall village.
This trail follows in the footsteps of Percy Sheaffe and his fellow surveyors as they marked the NSW and ACT border in 1910.
It is a pleasant, straightforward walk on the ridge line with minor undulations (300m) on a dusty track through lightly forested bushland.
Views south-west over Gungahlin, Belconnen, Woden to the Brindabella Mountains
Several information aboard along the way with geographical and historical facts.
These gums shed their bark intensively. All Mark and I could think of what a fire risk they are.
Some creative cairns...with dinosaur!
Brightly coloured shale
A little colour along the way
The trail borders pastoral properties
A rambling echidna
A shy wallaby
Skirting around One Tree Hill
A little footsore, we arrived in Hall Village, appreciating that we had enjoyed mild temperatures and clear views all day.
