SEPTEMBER 2015 : ITALY : Sorrento : Day 7

Sadly it was time to move on from our little haven in Amalfi. It would be difficult to repeat such a wonderful week with the perfect weather, captivating activities and ideal setting

We just loved the hotel, despite its position out of the town.

Our congenial host.

Leaving Amalfi from a local ferry, watching the regular congestion on the narrow main road.

The ferry made several calls into local ports, including Capri. This is the primary port for major shipping.  We docked on the other side of the island yesterday.

Sorrento. The town is set high above the harbour.

Steep steps up to the city centre, not a problem for us, even with our packs on.

Fascinating how every minutiae of space is maximised, particularly if there is the possibility of a view.

Vesuvius across the Bay of Naples.

Lemons, chillies and other specialties.

Fruit stall. We haven't seen much fruit while we have been in Amalfi, particularly compared to the fresh produce in Slovenia and Northern Italy.

Exclusive clothing stores a la Italiano. This is for the 2 year old fashionista!

Traditional ristorante

Campanile Cattedrale

Corso Italia

Sedil Dominova. An ancient cloister, with a striking fresco, now serving as a gallery and....

when we looked closer, also serving as a perfect venue for daily cards...all male participants, of course.

A simple B&B tonight, booked for its proximity to the bus station as we must leave Sorrento at 6.30am for an early flight from Naples. It does boast sea views but with the external shutter fixed fast we have an excellent 'bella vista' of the train station below.

Lunch and dinner at a nearby restaurant, il Leone Rosso, which served an excellent selection of food for reasonable prices. Our waiter was a badge aficionado and we were able to add to his collection with one of our kangaroo pins. His response was a complimentary decanter of limoncello!

M&M

We were in last in Sorrento in 1976, newly -married 23 year-olds, and having spent a year in Lancaster, England where Mark was studying. We had little money and stayed in a room above a bakery. We visited Pompeii, Herculaneum and walked up Vesuvius. It all looks so different now.
