Today we flew from the quiet gracious city of Trieste to the mad world of Southern Italy. We are spending a week in Amalfi, a popular tourist resort south of Naples.
Flying over the metropolis of Naples.
Out of the airport and into a bus to Sorrento.
Tourist mania. We passed through the entry to the Pompeii and Herculaneum sites. We were thoroughly engrossed with them in 1976 when it wasn't so commercial.
Amazing to see Versuvius as part of the normal landscape.
Heading down the coast and the inviting coastal resorts.
Bus drivers manage these narrow roads with amazing skill.
Amalfi. Commercial, touristy, convenient. Suddenly expensive...20 euros for 2 sandwiches and 2 drinks. 20 euros for a taxi to our hotel - later we are given 1.20 euro bus vouchers from the hotel!
Bellevue Suite Hotel, our hotel for 6 nights.
Beautifully decorated room.
Magnificent views and balcony.
Courtyards, artwork and plants in the hotel.
Lots of life and activity. Similar feel to Cinque Terra.
Lots of interesting shops and areas to explore.
Delicious fish meal at a recommended restaurant. We have 6 days here. How lucky are we!
