A cruise today to the Isle of Capri.
A fine morning as we look out from our balcony.
The small busy Amalfi port with cruises and hire boats setting out in various directions.
Our boat for the day - with a group of 10 on board.
Leaving Amalfi. We are so delighted that it is a fine day, having missed our opportunity yesterday.
Our captain skirts along the coast showing us natural wonders..
Fabulous hotels straddling the cliffs.
The Isle of Capri. A rocky island with a history of settlement from the time of the Emperor Tiberius and made famous by Axel Munthe's book, The Story of San Michele, telling of his love affair with Capri in the first half of the 20th century.
Caves and grottos all around the perimeter of the island. The Blue Grotto was not open today but you could see the magic colour in smaller caves.
We docked in the minor port, Marina Piccola, used for smaller craft. Swimming areas and small bars along the shore.
We took the shuttle bus up the windy streets to the main square.
Everything was immaculate with a real sense of pride and emphasis on quality.
Even the busy tourist area had green leafy gardens and sophisticated hotels and shopping.
We walked to Augusto's Garden, an area developed by the German industrialist, Krupp, in 1902 and bequeathed to the island on his death.
Colourful, cool and peaceful with vantage points to the sea.
Haven from tourist central
Afterwards our cruiser stopped here for a swimming opportunity
I could get used to this routine!
Dinner in the main piazza in Amalfi.
Fireworks for the festival of Santa Caterina.
What a special day!
