DAY 36 : SPAIN : RIBADISO to O PEDROUZO (ARCA) - 22.1 kms - 6 hours

Distance walked in France and Spain so far : 1497.7 kms (70 days)
Weather : rain, rain with intermittent sunshine

20 kms to go until we reach Santiago!

The countryside as we left Ribadiso this morning

Domingo (Sunday) today so we could hear the guns of
the hunters ..but a wonderful surprise today - flocks of
various birds, such as this magpie and many robin red-
breasts.

Two lovely breaks today - one in this strange cafe with
some interesting walkers who only began walking this week
and we had lunch in Salceda on a picnic table in the brief
sunsine eating ham (pancetta) and cheese (Galician cream cheese)
bocadillos provided  by a local bar this morning - glorious.

A local shepherdess reluctantly looking after her sheep
in the rain.

The little parish church of Santa Irene.
'She was a Portuguese nun who was martyred in defence
of her chastity in the year 653. Her body was miraculously
recovered after being thrown into a river.'

Walking through impressive eucalypt forests

Where to stay?

10 euros and a great choice. Many friends
have arrived and it will be wonderful to
spend time together on our last night.
Our host loves technology - we have
elevator music playing the whole time. He also
has a videocam with audio as you come into the
town - when you draw near to his sign he spies
you and puts the audio on to attract you to his
establishment - spooky but effective!

Dinner at a local restaurant before we set off on our last
day tomorrow...

Oooh, so close to Santiago now. I have mixed emotions, I'm so pleased for you guys but gutted that I'm not there with you right now. How are you feeling at this point knowing you will be in Santiago tomorrow? Good luck and congratulations from Ingrid xxx
