DAY 1 - PARIS

We took the 11.30am Eurostar to Paris - what a way to travel - so easy. We loved St Pancras station and its beautiful renovation, inspired by the Poet Laureate, John Betjemann, before he died in the 1980s.

St Pancras Station

Andrew, Mark's cousin, met us and drove us to our mooring near the Eiffel Tower, where we will be staying for the next week. He was particularly interested to see Simpatico, our barge accommodatoin for this week. Andrew owned and lived on his barge, Pettite Vitesse, for five years in the 1980s. He and Bob, our host, who lives in a separate wheelhouse/ crew quarters, discussed life on the Seine. Simpatico is a renovated Dutch craft and is nearly 100 years old with all mod cons, even a washing machine.

Tonight we negotiated our way to Andrew and Ebba's home on the metro (only 2 minutes away) and had a delightful evening with them in their beautiful home near the Palace des Congres.

Bonjour à nouveau! Vous êtes très chanceux d'avoir un hébergement intéressant et merveilleux. Nous espérons que la nourriture sera un moment fort de votre séjour en France. Pas plus de bacon et boudin noir s'il vous plaît.
