Today we continued to climb the Markha Valley en route to Markha (3770m).
Early morning light and another spectacular start to the day.
Monks and travellers stayed in the caves in these rocks in years gone by.
A good workout to start the day
A rare settlement
Villagers out in the early morning collecting grass for cattle, goats and yaks
Taking refuge in the shade
Little oases along the river - small farms with vibrant mustard seed and barley crops
Balancing on precarious bridges
Some breathtaking views
A snow leopard trap...still no sight of any of these iconic animals..
Another welcome parachute tent, albeit less salubrious than some of the others we've enjoyed.
A wonderful respite from the heat..and dust..
Entering Markha
Goat grazing...
Mules arrive and celebrate
Arriving at Markha campsite
A fertile campsite
A visit to the old fort and gompa
A lone monk is resident here, thoroughly engaged in the community as confident, mediator and celebrant
The library
Inspiring young monk totally devoted to his vocation.
