JULY 2017 : INDIA : DAY 10 : Shingo (4150m) - Narding (3530m) - 4 hour walk in 30oC heat.

On our trek today we walked from Shingo, down a very impressive gorge, scaled some exciting river crossings until we reached the small settlement of Skyu on the Markha River.

Breakfast

Lots of partridges strutting around the campsite

Setting off

Steep descent into the gorge

Our first river crossing for the day
Catherine mastering rock hopping

Varying rock formations

More crossings.
Nawang said that this year the rivers are at their highest.
Most years these are low-level streams.

Skirting around the eroding banks

A rare lily found in a rare patch of greenery and shade

Our mule train meets us as we near Skyu

Skyu monastery

Crossing to another welcome parachute tent

Mint or masala tea?

The next section along a long and dusty road was hot and exhausting.
Our team found a shady spot by a canal for lunch.

Overlooking some animal pens

Scouting around streams on the valley floor

An abundance of lizards in and out of the rocky cracks

In the middle of nowhere a somewhat sophisticated cafe

And masala tea all round

At last our 'grassy isolated campsite', which was also boggy and insect infested...but beautiful clean water for washing!

Always time for a game of Big Two, taught to us by Ollie.
Very inclusive - any number of players - and very competitive!
