Section 8
Setting off with Mount Sonder to the west
Some unexpected colour
High quartzite ridge lines
Views to Chalet Range
Many termite mounds. Termites feed on the plentiful spinifex and the Aborigines
used to harvest the resin from the nests to use as an adhesive.
A welcome break from walking in the heat - up to 28o most days.
More colour..
Views east - enjoying the breeze
The workings of a termite mound
Along the rocky path, there were ripple rocks, evidence of an ancient sea
Stunning view from Counts Point of the Hidden Valley, only accessible by foot
Counts Point where they lined up the children's choir for the Qantas ad many years ago
Lunch in the shade
A shadier path as we descend
A rest at The Balcony
Back to ground level
We passed through a well-known tool-making area
Oh, joy of joys, another opportunity for a swim. This time at the spectacular Ormiston Gorge
Not quite as cold as the Ellery Creek Big Hole.
Dinner and an early night.
