MAY 2017 : NORTHERN TERRITORY : Larapinta Trail : Day 5 : Ochre Pits / Ingarlanga Pass to Serpentine Chalet Dam

Dawn at camp

Section 9

We began today at the extraordinary Ochre Pits.
Ochre for ceremonial and cave painting supplies for centuries.

Making our way through the Pass into the Hidden Valley

Beautifully cool for our rest breaks

Always a few challenges along the way

Views in the Hidden or Alice Valley

Returning through the Pass - lush Mac Donnell cycads line the Pass

This native fig surviving with minimal support.

We ran into a survival marathon - very multicultural competitors
(The only clouds we saw all week!)
Some enthusiastic walkers then took a detail to the failed Serpentine Dam site.
A project by Reg Ansett to create a Chalet Range resort, which never eventuated.

Spinifex pidgeons around Ormiston Gorge camp

A welcome swim at Ormiston Gorge to complete the day.
