APRIL 2017 : CANBERRA : Pinnacle Hill - Kama Reserve - Butters Bridge and return - 17 kms - 5 1/2 hours with breaks

Mild Autumn day (22o) and a flat graded path made this an easy walk. The main feature was the sweeping vistas south to the Brindabella and the Snowy Mountains. Otherwise it was a fairly weedy path on old pasture land with very little wildlife. Good turn out - 35 walkers - so there was plenty of chatting.

We started near the water tanks on Springvale Drive in Weetangera. First we walked over Pinnacle Hill.

Then we walked through the Pinnacle Hill Reserve.

Then through the underpass on William Hovel Drive, finding some well-established swallow nests.

Then we entered Kama Nature Reserve - with the promise of several interesting creatures.

The suggested path

Most of the walk was on exposed track bordered by dry grassland and weedy pasture land.

Morning tea by an old dam.

Then we walked through the Molonglo Nature Reserve towards the Denman Project with new pipeline and bridge constructions.

Our destination was the new Butters Bridge - a pedestrian/ cycle bridge with carries a sewerage pipeline as well.

With views towards Black Mountain.

And return...

A pleasant day's walk but unfortunately no interesting flora or fauna - just expansive views.
