Today we walked from Viana through Logrono to Navarette |
Weather today : cool, cloudy 13o
We left Viana early and walked along a straight path to Logrono. Walking into the town there was a village - many houses drying capsicums, colourfully adorning their balconies. |
Logrono is a lively university town of 130,000. A pleasant blend of modern and medieval. Here is glimpse of the X1Vth century cathedral, Santa Maria de la Redonda. |
A very sophisticated town with excellent shopping... if only we had the room in our packs. |
Walking out of Logrono we passed through a wonderful park and reserve, beautifully maintained. Here is a waymarker for the camino. |
There was attractive signage, children's play areas, cafe etc. |
A spoonbill - at last, some wildlife! |
Carp, gasping for air or feeding in the clay-filled pond. |
We opted to stay in the small town of Navarette tonight and found a small private hostel - Casa Rural, called Pelegrinando, run by an artist. 30 euro for room, shared bathroom. |
Some of Roberto's artwork in his attractive Casa Rural. |
Courtyard off the living area. A suntrap on a cold afternoon. |
XV1 century Church of the Assumption This elaborate gold work is very typical of the churches in this area. |
Antonio, an Italian chef, who owns Deportivo, a very popular eatery and bar in Navarette. |

I see the park signage did not prohibit grazing one's donkeys and goats! Hope the historic towns and wonderful ornate churches are a motivation when the feet and legs get tired...1000km not far away!
