JUNE 2019 : KIMBERLEY, WA : Last days in Broome

A relaxed few days in Broome before departing to frosty Canberra. We have really enjoyed our time in this small town and look forward to returning.

Kimberley Travellers Lodge, a backpackers’ hostel was perfect for our needs.

Set in a car park

With drive-thru service from 5am. A guy sits at the entrance to the car park, takes orders with number plate details, the information is transferred to the baristers and then waiters take the orders to parked cars. There is a continuous stream of traffic.

We managed to go to a movie, Top End Wedding, at the historic outdoor cinema.

JUNE 2019 : KIMBERLEY, WA : DAY 12 : Fitzroy Crossing to Broome

An early start with pancakes for breakfast

An 8am cruise down the Fitzroy River along the Geikie Gorge

This was the old bridge across the Fitzroy River and the only Crossing from Broome to the east. It was replaced in 1974.

JUNE 2019 : KIMBERLEY, WA : DAY 11 : Halls Creek - Fitzroy Crossing

Breakfast in the sun

After an hour of careering around on the slippery track exiting the Park we had an early morning tea on a huge dry river bed.

Lunch in a dusty lay by/ free camping spot with all the grey nomads

A hostess with the mostest offering lollies to pass the time on our long travel day

Fitzroy Crossing - a dusty town after the wet season denuded all the campground vegetation 

We opted for a basic tent tonight as it was so dusty

Lots of Agile Wallabies resident in the park

Excellent Italian antipasto meal prepared by Storm. Speeches and presentos to honour our guides.

Music and dancing. Not one Country and Western track to counter Luke’s proclivity for the genre. It would be interesting to know how many C and W songs we’ve ‘enjoyed’ in the last 11 days. It was a fun night.
