A special meal at Parliament House in Canberra.
The dinner menu was devised by the catering staff at Parliament House to celebrate a special state banquet hosted by Australia’s first Prime Minister, Edmund Barton, in 1901.
Original menu and memorabilia sourced from the National Library history collection
The RMC military band played the original numbers requested by the Prime Minister
Tonight’s menu, inspired by the original dishes
The degustation menu was exquisitely presented and paired with local wines
The banquet was served in the Members’ Hall in the centre of Parliament House.
We were invited to join friends who have worked in various positions in Parliament House. John now lives in our building.
Lovely company.
