Our last day in Paris before we fly out tonight. We decided to explore the Musée Jacquemart-André about a 30 minute walk from our hotel. It is in the 8th arrondissement. It was created from the private home of Édouard André (1833-1894) and his wife, Nélie (1841-1894) and displays the art collected during their lives. There was also an exhibition of the Danish artist, Hammershøi (1864-1916).
The grand André chateau
Exquisitely decorated rooms
Huge collection displayed attractively on brightly-coloured walls
The winter garden
Lavishly decorated bedrooms
Glass collection
Classical art
Vilhelm Hammershøi exhibition
A friend of Ebba’s had recommended this museum, for its collection but also for the pastries in the café, which was unfortunately closed. We had a glimpse inside and although we were disappointed to be missing the delicacies the visual impact was impressive.
Walking back to the hotel we glanced up a side street and noticed this very oriental building amongst the traditional Parisian architecture.
A joyful mother and child sculpture shines amongst the chaos of traffic and motor bikes and graffiti.
A fromagerie with some lunch time options
Back in the St Ferdinand neighbourhood with beautifully displayed produce lining the small streets
And we return home - Paris - Shanghai (12 hours) - Sydney (10 hours)
